The Subclass 482 Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) Visa allows Australian employers to sponsor skilled workers from overseas to fill positions where no suitable local workers are available.

This visa replaced the previous Subclass 457 visa and is designed to address labour shortages in Australia.

There are three main streams under this visa:

  • Short-Term Stream
  • Medium-Term Stream
  • Labour Agreement Stream

Applicants must be nominated by an approved Australian employer.

Basic Requirements
  • Valid job offer from an approved Australian employer
  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience
  • Meet English language requirements
  • Meet health and character requirements
  • Occupation must be listed on the relevant skilled occupation list
The Short-Term Stream
  • Occupation must be listed on the Short-Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL)
  • Visa validity: 1–2 years (up to 4 years in special cases)
  • Can be renewed once
  • Requires at least 2 years of work experience
The Medium-Term Stream
  • Occupation must be listed on the Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) or Regional Occupation List (ROL)
  • Stricter English requirements
  • Visa validity: 1–4 years (renewable multiple times)
  • May lead to permanent residency

Note: For regional occupations, the job must be located in a designated regional area. Eligible applicants may later apply for permanent residency under Subclass 187 (RSMS).

The Labour Agreement Stream
  • For employers with a labour agreement with the Australian Government
  • Occupation must be included in the agreement
  • Minimum 2 years work experience (may vary depending on agreement)
Visa Entitlements
  • Work in Australia for an approved employer
  • Stay in Australia for the duration of the visa
  • Travel in and out of Australia freely
  • Family members can accompany and work/study
