The Canadian Experience Class (CEC) is a popular immigration pathway for individuals who have already studied or worked in Canada and wish to transition to permanent residency (PR).

It is one of the three main programs under Canada’s Express Entry system.

Overview

The CEC was introduced to help international students and temporary foreign workers become permanent residents of Canada based on their Canadian work experience.

This program has become one of the most successful immigration pathways due to its focus on candidates who are already familiar with Canadian work culture and environment.

Benefits of the CEC
  • Fast-track pathway to permanent residency
  • No requirement to show settlement funds (in most cases)
  • Higher chances of selection due to Canadian experience
  • Additional CRS points under Express Entry
  • Processing time can be as fast as 6 months after ITA
How the Process Works
  1. Check Eligibility: Ensure you meet CEC requirements
  2. Language Test: Complete IELTS or approved test
  3. Create Express Entry Profile: Submit your profile online
  4. Receive CRS Score: Based on your profile
  5. Invitation to Apply (ITA): Selected candidates receive invitations
  6. Submit PR Application: Apply for permanent residency after ITA

Express Entry draws are usually conducted every two weeks.

Eligibility Criteria
  • Minimum 1 year (1,560 hours) of skilled work experience in Canada within the last 3 years
  • Work experience must be in NOC TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 categories
  • Language requirement:
    • CLB 7 for NOC TEER 0 or 1 jobs
    • CLB 5 for NOC TEER 2 or 3 jobs
  • Plan to live outside Quebec (Quebec has separate programs)
  • Meet health and character requirements

Applicants must have gained work experience legally in Canada through full-time or equivalent part-time work.

Note: Work experience gained while studying full-time (such as co-op programs) does not count toward CEC eligibility.
